Off we go to the Kohala Coast where you will find some amazing beaches. This is going north from the airport. Do remember that all beaches are public and the majority of beaches do have showers. We found an amazing beach where we were the only ones there (no can't share that one!). When you are driving from the airport, on the left is lava, lava and more lava, but there are mile markers and if you have a 4 wheel drive you will find some amazing beaches. Right below the Four Seasons you will find some beach parks (Kua Bay and Kekaha Kai). In the Waikoloa area (where we usually stay as we like the area) you can go to Anaeho'omalu Bay where you will see lots of turtles and occasionally some good snorkeling-can get a little cloudy. If you want a typical big white sand beach then Hapuna Beach State Park is your best bet. Get there early as parking goes quickly; bring an umbrella as there is NO shade and also 70 sunscreen. You can body surf, boogie board or just float. Not good for snorkeling. They do have food for purchase. Go on up to Spencer Beach Park (small and good for a picnic) and then if you go early go to Lapakahi State Historic Park-very interesting but gets hot later in the day. We will go even farther towards Hawi later in the week. Aloha
