WINDSTAR CRUISES

If you are looking for a great experience after cruising with the larger cruise lines then you will want to experience a Windstar Cruise. When you are standing on the teak deck and looking around, you will notice people admiring this elegant and stream lined vessel. They have 3 ships-the Windstar, Windspirit and the larger Windsurf. After reviewing the itineraries of each ship, we decided on the larger Wind Surf. The Wind Surf is the largest 5 masted sailing "vessel" in the world. To be considered a sailing "ship" the sails must be square. This vessel holds 312 people; however on our cruise there were only 250 on board with 180 crew-talk about pampering!

The staterooms are a good size with hidden nooks and quiet spaces. I liked the idea of the small refrigerator that was stocked daily with complimentary water and sodas with the beer and wine available for purchase. The food was prepared exquisitely, fresh and delicious. I particularly liked the Le Marche and Candles Grill as they were both outside and with the lights on the ship and the warm breeze-very romantic. The others were elegant with their signature menus.

The sails were up 85% of the time so no engine noise. With these smaller vessels we were able to explore hidden harbors (hence no crowds), sail closer to the coastlines which provided awesome views of the islands. I felt like it was a private yacht, yet the on board amenities were there to indulge in; spa treatments; small shop to browse, sail, swim and kayak right off the yacht (the back platform drops down). You are welcome to visit the bridge and talk with the captain one on one.

There are itineraries to please everyone-try it, you'll like it!! 180 degrees from ordinary. Be sure to check back for ideas on the different islands.
