Dreams Of Tahiti

This will be a 6 part series reviewing 6 of the French Polynesia/Society Islands and will begin with Tahiti and continue to Moorea, Bora Bora, Taha'a, Ra'iatea and Huahine. We, as Californian's are so used to the quick flights to Hawaii and Mexico that we don't consider other "adventures" that may be a little harder and longer to get to, but aren't we all looking for different locations/cultures to explore?  We thought the timing was right for us now to head off to this part of the world.  First, from Sacramento to Los Angeles (by the way, all US flights to Tahiti must begin in Los Angeles) and with a brief 2 hour layover we were off on the red eye to Papeete.  Thanks to over the counter sleeping pills, I slept most of the 8 hour flight.  "Hey" that wasn't bad at all.

We arrived at 5:30am and our transfers were patiently waiting.  We booked the previous night at our hotel so we could immediately check in, take a shower, nap and relax.  Great idea!.  After waking refreshed, off we went exploring the open air market which was about 1.5 blocks from our hotel and then over to the pier which was a little longer.  Oh, the French pastries were so beautiful and people walking around with Baguette sandwiches.  The bread couldn't have been any fresher.  We found a great little outdoor cafe' "Three Bressiers" right on the waterfront and sat and tried to figure out the French menu and Francs!! After a few Tahitian beers we just pointed and ordered.  Great meal by the way. (so much for my 2 years of French).

Next morning, took a quick swim and re-organized our suitcases and waited for our transfer to our sailing Yacht (The Windstar-Spirit).  Since Tahiti is a stopping off location to get to the other islands, we didn't tour much of the island.  Next stop Moorea!
